The tour
What to expect.
The route leads through the Königstal to the old customs house and then onto the ridge. Easy scrambling over the blocky east ridge reaches the summit, with excellent views towards the glaciated Ötztal peaks and the striking north face of the Granatenkogel.
We can start in Hochgurgl or use the lifts to the Top Mountain Star and begin with a 500-metre descent into the valley. The ski descent continues to the hamlet of Poschach at 1,800 metres.
The Königsjoch alone is an attractive introductory objective. Continuing to the Königskogel adds the summit ridge and, in suitable conditions, a steeper descent variant.
